DESCRIPTION:Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday\, July 13th\, 2024 from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm for a Flower & Leaf Pendants Class with juried artist Joy Raskin. In this class\, students will make delightful and fun flower and leaf pendants. Using wire and sheet metal\, students can cut out flower and leaf shapes\, hammer-texture them\, and shape them to be more 3-dimensional. Students can add a neck chain or can make a simple chain to hang the new pendant on so it can be worn right away. Materials used will be brass\, bronze\, copper\, and silver wire and sheet metal\, plus we will have some commercially made flower stampings to play with. Materials will be provided\, and the material cost will be between $10 and $30 depending on the amount of metal used. Tuition is $75.00 per student. Materials fee is between $10-$30 depending on the materials used. The materials fee will be paid cash or check to the instructor on the day of class. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Monday\, July 8th. Jewelers will be crafting intricate floral-themed jewelry made from precious metals and gemstones. Inspired by different types of flowers\, their work will come to life in rings\, necklaces\, earrings and bracelets. Glass artists will be offering stunning glass flowers\, vases\, and functional glass pieces such as bowls. The interplay of light through glass adds an ethereal quality to these beautiful works of art. SUMMARY:Basic Turkey Wing Workshop with Larry Antonuk
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Larry Antonuk at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday\, May 25th\, 2024 from 10 am to 4 pm for a Basic Turkey Wing Workshop. \n  \nThe art of broom-making reached its pinnacle in New England during the late 1800’s\, driven mainly by the various Shaker museums. Before the industrial revolution most towns had several broom-making shops. The average farmhouse held over a dozen brooms of different styles\, suited ideally to an individual task. In this class we’ll create some of the original designs\, using authentic broom corn and other materials. What to expect: In this class you will learn the basic concepts of broom making by making small whisk brooms in a few different styles. You’ll get up to speed on the use of the “tumble spool\,” the main tool of the small broom maker. You’ll leave with two or more brooms of your choice of style and color. Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning the basics of traditional broom-making. Note that moderate hand strength – along with some hand-eye-foot coordination – will make this a more enjoyable workshop. About the instructor: Larry Antonuk began his brooming journey in 2010 after watching a demonstration at the Enfield\, NH Shaker Museum. He soon became an interpreter at the museum and began researching broom designs and building reproductions of both small and tall brooms. Larry is a juried broom maker with the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and sells brooms at five Shaker museums in New England. \nTuition is $75 per student with an additional materials fee of $15 paid by cash or check to the instructor at the time of the class. \nSpace is limited and pre-registration is required.
