SUMMARY:Intro to Screen Printing with Bill Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning more about screen printing or wanting to further develop your screen printing ideas and techniques? Dover printmaker William Mitchell will guide students in exploring the history of the process and basic techniques to get you started. In this workshop you will learn how to paint directly on the screen with Speedball drawing fluid and Speedball screen filler to create a permanent silkscreen stencil that can be utilized to print ink directly on paper or fabric. Students are welcome to bring a simple sketch idea no larger than 5×7 to help prepare their screen. The class will provide all materials to use\, but wearing an apron or old clothes is recommended. The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience. Tuition is $55.00 per student with a $10 materials fee paid to the instructor on the day of class. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Tuesday\, June 23rd.

SUMMARY:Handled Broom Workshop with Larry Antonuk
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday\, November 23\, 2024 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm for a Handled Broom Workshop with juried artist Larry Antonuk. The art of broom making reached its pinnacle in New England during the late 1800’s\, driven mainly by the various Shaker museums. Prior to the industrial revolution most towns had several broom making shops. The average farm house held over a dozen brooms of different styles\, suited ideally to an individual task. In this class we’ll create some of the original designs\, using authentic broom corn and other materials. What to expect: In this class you’ll take broom making to the next level\, making a broom on a wooden handle. This might be a small child’s broom\, a hearth broom\, or a small parlor broom. You’ll learn techniques related to the “tumble spool” and how it relates to a handled broom. You’ll go home with a small practice whisk as well as one or more handled brooms of your design. Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning the basics of traditional broom making. Note that moderate hand strength – along with some hand-eye-foot coordination – will make this a more enjoyable workshop. Previous broom making experience will be helpful\, but not mandatory. About the instructor: Larry Antonuk began his brooming journey in 2010 after watching a demonstration at the Enfield\, NH Shaker Museum. He soon became an interpreter at the museum\, and began researching broom designs and building reproductions of both small and tall brooms. Larry is a juried broom maker with the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen\, and sells brooms at five Shaker museums in New England. Tuition is $85 per student with a $20 materials fee\, paid cash or check to the instructor on the day of the class. All tools and materials will be provided. SUMMARY:Flower & Leaf Pendants with Joy Raskin
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday\, July 13th\, 2024 from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm for a Flower & Leaf Pendants Class with juried artist Joy Raskin. In this class\, students will make delightful and fun flower and leaf pendants. Using wire and sheet metal\, students can cut out flower and leaf shapes\, hammer-texture them\, and shape them to be more 3-dimensional. Students can add a neck chain or can make a simple chain to hang the new pendant on so it can be worn right away. Materials used will be brass\, bronze\, copper\, and silver wire and sheet metal\, plus we will have some commercially made flower stampings to play with. Materials will be provided\, and the material cost will be between $10 and $30 depending on the amount of metal used. Tuition is $75.00 per student. Materials fee is between $10-$30 depending on the materials used. The materials fee will be paid cash or check to the instructor on the day of class. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Monday\, July 8th.
