DESCRIPTION:Join us on a guided hike of the most popular trail at Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area\, and learn about the history of the property and the nature you will encounter along the way! The Brook Walk follows Shannon Brook as it rambles through the woods and leads to viewpoints of seven spectacular waterfalls\, with much of the trail following the route that led Ossipee Mountain Park visitors to these points more than a century ago. Signs along the trail provide descriptions of the waterfalls and include old images\, providing an idea of how these falls appeared to visitors many years ago. \nThis is a moderate hike of about 1 mile and has an elevation climb of approximately 200’. It also includes several sections of rock stairs. \nPlease wear appropriate footwear\, dress for the weather\, and bring sunscreen and bug spray as desired.

They not only tell stories of such historical events as the Great Awakening\, the Throat Distemper epidemic\, the American Revolution\, and the battles of the Civil War\, but also reveal how aspects of society in the Granite State\, such as the status of women and people of color\, have changed over time. Join Glenn to find out more about these deeply personal works of art and learn how to read the stone “pages” that give insight into the vast genealogical book of New Hampshire through the ages. \nThis presentation will take place in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House. \nThis presentation is made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities: Humanities To Go program.

DESCRIPTION:Bring your family and friends to enjoy a friendly Halloween-themed stroll through the woods at Castle in the Clouds! \nCastle in the Clouds has once again teamed up with the Moultonborough Recreation Department and the Lakes Region Conservation Trust for this beloved Halloween tradition. Enjoy a self-guided hike on an easy\, family-friendly trail lined with lighted jack-o’-lanterns\, and be sure to look for some not-so-scary Halloween surprises along the way! Costumes are encouraged! \nPlease note: This is a family-friendly event. This is not a “haunted” walk\, and Halloween decorations and surprises will not be scary or gory. \nRegistration is encouraged but not required. Knowing how many people will be attending allows us to better prepare for the evening. \nPrepare for the Trail\nThe proposed hiking trail is easy\, family-friendly\, and less than a mile. Since this is a self-guided hike\, you can go at your own pace or even do the trail more than once! Wear weather-appropriate clothing underneath your Halloween costume and good footwear for this fun adventure! Feel free to bring a flashlight or headlamp as it will be getting dark on the property. \nStay for Treats!\nAfter the hike\, warm up by a fire pit and enjoy goodies compliments of Castle in the Clouds\, the Moultonborough Recreation Department\, and the Lakes Region Conservation Trust.
